I-170/Olive Joint Redevelopment Task Force

The goal of the I-170/Olive Joint Redevelopment Task Force is to fully explore the opportunities to pursue joint redevelopment initiatives in the Olive Boulevard corridor on both sides of the Interstate 170 interchange based on a consistent long-range strategy that builds on the strengths of the University City and Olivette. The anticipation duration of this Task Force is six months. This Task Force will be comprised of eight members (four members from each city): one City Council Member and one Planning Commission Member from each City plus two citizens from each community. Staffing for this Task Force will be from the City Manager’s offices as well as appropriate community development staff members from both communities.

Specific Assignments Include:

• Discuss similarities and differences between the communities relating to long-range redevelopment goals and objectives
• Develop a mutual consensus on redevelopment principles and goals to guide redevelopment in both communities
• Solicit expert opinion and input, both inside and outside of the metropolitan area, from a wide variety of disciplines, regarding the identified redevelopment principles and goals for the corridor
• Develop a series of action steps, with proposed timelines, to be pursued by both communities to accomplish the long-range redevelopment principles and goals
• Identify experienced developers with a proven track record for implementing redevelopment projects consistent with the established redevelopment principles and goals on a local, regional and national level
• Explore available financing and potential joint governance mechanisms to be utilized to pursue a cohesive redevelopment initiative that transcends municipal boundaries as required to successfully implement the established redevelopment and goals
• Summarize the results of the steps outlined above in jointly prepared Executive Summary offering specific recommendations for next steps to be reviewed by the respective governing bodies in a joint meeting
