Seven student – employees from the St. Louis Job Corps volunteered with the City of Olivette on November 9th for the Weed Warriors Project in the removal of honeysuckle bushes.
In addition, another volunteer group will join the City on Thanksgiving Day for Turkey Trot.
Olivette is fortunate to have over 120 acres of parks and open space. Weed Warriors volunteers clear invasive plants, plant new plants, assist with the prairie seeding and learn from each other— all while having a great time outdoors! The Olivette’s 6th Annual 5K Turkey Trot is a chip-timed event with over 1,400 participants and is a family-friendly 5k run/walk course on Thanksgiving Day. All proceeds benefit the Harvey Kornblum Food Pantry.
The St. Louis Job Corps is a tuition-free training and education program that connects eligible young men and women with the skills and educational opportunities they need to establish real careers. Job Corps assists with career training and career preparation, personal responsibility skills required at the workplace, and assistance with living accommodations, transportation, and family support resources.
Olivette welcomes and loves when volunteers support our programs. Like many things in a small community, good work doesn't happen without the effort and dedication of a great group of volunteers. We would like to thank the St. Louis Job Corps for volunteering their times with us. Our programs and events would not be a success without them or our other great volunteers!
